The POPUPHOOD is a new urban initiative and small business incubator revitalizing Oakland, block by block. This is an innovative strategy for breathing new life into the city’s retail sector in downtown’s hip, historic Old Oakland neighborhood with a grand opening celebration Friday, December 9, 2011.

This short film documents the founders and participants of POPUPHOOD, and was created by Oakland photographer Eva Kolenko in hopes of introducing their inspiring stories to others and in some way improve the community in which she lives and loves.

POPUPHOOD retailers include: Manifesto Bicycles, Marion and Rose’s Workshop, Sticks + Stones, Piper + John General Goods, Turtle and Hare,
and Crown Nine.

All the music featured in this documentary was created by Oakland musicians, Beat Rock Music, Precipitate Records, Gummybear, and James + Evander

Also Special thanks to Kate Ellen of Crown Nine for conducting all the interviews and for all the additional assistance in filming this short documentary.

We have always been told beautiful stories about Africa : the man of the jungle ,King Kong and his beloved woman climbing the roofs of New York, hakuna matata !!!

And let’s not forget the stories for the adults:  the super-heroes of the IMF, the good souls of the World Bank and the top economists convinced that the African Miracle is about to happen… one day or the other.

The World loves Africa. The World sings for Africa. The World offers Africa pens, clothes, cars…

If one day it were to snow in Africa, would people send us winter coats and snowboards?

Sawa project does not have the so-called generosity of brands which use Africa just to glorify themselves

Sawa is a fashion brand which has taken the challenge to fabricate shoes in Africa.

All the added value benefits the Continent.

Sawa has just the courage of its opinions and marketing choices

We are told here and there that the climate of the planet is going crazy…

…when the snow falls in Africa, we will be ready to produce the best ski boots….and snowboards!

Check out the look book here.

Amnesty International commissioned a series of street art installations as part of its Making the Invisible Visible campaign. Thin strips of printed poster paper are pasted in a row on the side of fences. Only when you look at it from a side-angle, are you able to reveal an image of a face, otherwise, the picture stays hidden. The faces are of six individuals from across the world who have suffered human rights abuses, including Fatima Hussein Badi, Jabbar Savalan, Filip Karma, Natalia Estemirova, and Jean-Claude Roger Mbede,
